Master – As a prerequisite to taking the Department of Commerce exam, the applicant shall provide proof of (a) at least 1,000 hours per year for at least 3 consecutive years as a licensed journeyman plumber or (b) graduation from an accredited engineering university or college with a degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or other approved curriculum related to plumbing.Pre-approval is required for these exams by the state.Code § SPS 320.08, a person who holds a Master Plumber Restricted Appliance license or a Master Plumber Restricted Service license may not commence installation of plumbing until a permit is issued for the installation.No person may install plumbing unless the person holds a credential issued by the department as a licensed master plumber, licensed master plumber restricted, licensed journeyman plumber, licensed journeyman plumber-restricted, registered plumbing apprentice, registered plumbing learner-restricted, registered utility contractor or registered pipe layer. Code § SPS 305.92, for any plumbing installation that requires a uniform building permit under Wis. Such persons may also install water services, stormwater use systems, and reclaimed water systems if the services or systems are to be located outside the foundation wall of the building. § 145.14, the plumbing activities that may be undertaken by a person who holds a credential as a licensed Master Plumber Restricted Service, licensed Journeyman Plumber Restricted Service, or registered Plumbing Learner Restricted Service shall be limited to installing septic tanks for private on-site wastewater treatment systems, drain fields designed to serve such septic tanks, and sewer service from the septic tank or sewer extensions from mains to the immediate inside or proposed inside foundation wall of the building. § 145.06, no person may engage in or work at plumbing in the state unless licensed to do so by the Department.
